Fish Pattern Link

This little fishy is about 1.5 inches long.

Crocheted with a #40 thread and gold metallic sewing thread.

Yes, it took me 2 years to make this child's collar. This is the front view. I didn't think I would ever finish, but I did. The collar is made of motifs from Dover's 'Masterpieces of Irish Crochet: Techniques, Patterns, Instructions', Priscilla Publisher's 'Irish Crochet: Technique and Projects', and Maire Treanor's 'Clones Lace: The Story and Patterns of an Irish Crochet'. There are also some motifs of my own design. I began the collar when I was invited to speak about Irish crochet at one of the Auckland guilds (embroidery). I had some motifs already completed for a small collar. I guess I became rather ambitious when I knew I would be speaking about this art. At the time, I wanted to simply show the different steps in the making of Irish crochet. After the speech, I put the collar away to focus on designing. Nearly 2 years had passed when I decided that I would return to school. I did not want to start my academic life without first having finished this collar and so I worked constantly on it until it was completed! I'm very proud of this collar. It was an excellent learning curve and though I still have much to learn about the background work, I can confidantly say I am skilled in the art of Irish crochet lacemaking.
